Oumie Sissokho is a survivor and co-founder of The Girls’ Agenda, a community youth organisation. She campaigns for the rights of girls and young women in The Gambia by demanding for investment in their education and reproductive health.
Currently, Oumie is focusing on harmful cultural practices such as female genital mutilation, arranged and forced marriages. This role allows her to conduct capacity building programmes on comprehensive sexuality education, life skills, and leadership development for adolescent girls. Her work also centres on advocating for the elimination of violence against women and all forms of discrimination by targeting policy-makers and religious leaders. She also works closely with young men to galvanise their voices against FGM.
