AMAZONIAN INITIATIVE MOVEMENT (AIM) is a local organization working to end FGM in Sierra Leone. It was formed in 2000 by a group of refugee women. AIM works to promote gender equality and girls education. They believe they can end FGM by empowering women and girls to be able to make their own decisions about their bodies and well-being.
AIM has been the only organisation to have celebrated three public declarations of FGM practitioners to say no to FGM. Presently, they run a safe house for girls fleeing from FGM and an adult literacy courses for FGM practitioners. They have constructed schools where the curriculum includes FGM to be taught like any other subject.
