Africa Advocacy Foundation is a community-based charity established in 1996 that promotes better health, education and other life opportunities for disadvantaged people through practical support, advocacy, information, advice, guidance and training. Our activities include FGM campaigns, training and support. AAF delivers training for community FGM champions as well as tailored training packages for health, education and social care professionals.
AAF has a successful track record of service delivery with strong community links in London. AAF have been particularly effective in engaging individuals and families from FGM practising communities along with faith and cultural leaders in campaigns, but most importantly in supporting survivors to cope with the consequences of FGM. AAF work to address cultural, faith and language barriers; ignorance of the law as well as secrecy, shame, social and family pressures that perpetuate the FGM practice.
