Jaha Dukureh is an anti-FGM Activist in the US and the Gambia. Jaha Dukureh is the founder of Safe Hands for Girls which is a non-profit organization set up in 2013, working to support survivors of FGM and to protect girls and young women who are at risk from FGM. Some of her other achievements at Safe Hands for Girls Include hosting the first national youth forum on FGM in The Gambia, in partnership with The Girl Generation.
Jaha’s work has been featured in Cosmopolitan magazine, The New York Times, The Guardian, New York Daily news and other major news outlets. Her expertise on the issue of FGM includes how to end it at a grassroots level while maintaining respect and keeping survivors at the forefront. Jaha Dukureh is also a lead campaigner in the anti FGM movement in the US and created a space for FGM survivors in Atlanta, the first of its kind in the whole United States of America.
